We are serious about Biodiversity.
A key aspiration of the project is the improvement in the quality of the existing natural habit.
This will include:
- Enhancing the species-poor hedgerows with additional woody species, so that there are 5 or more species within a 30 m length
- Suitable hedgerow species include:
Hawthorn (Crateagus monogyna)
Hazel (Corylus avellana)
Wild Privet (Ligustrum vulgare)
Field Maple (Acer campestre)
Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa)
Guelder Rose (Viburnum opulus)
Wayfaring Tree (Viburnum lantana)
Dog Rose (Rosa canina)
Spindle (Euonymus europaea)
Holly (Ilex europaeus)
- Incorporating bee bricks into the Training Café and Farm buildings for solitary bees
- Beehives for colony bees
- A variety of bird nesting boxes through the site
- Bat tubes throughout the site
- Diverse planting to attract insects
- Appropriate Fencing that allows the passage of wild animals across the site
- Hibernacula for reptiles
- ‘Bug hotels’ through the site
- Log piles
We want a minimum biodiversity gain of 10%
